NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal for the extension of Metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City in Gurugram, a stretch of 28.5 km with 27 new stations to be built in the next four years.

A government statement mentioned that the main corridor would be 26.65 km in length with 26 stations and an extension would be from Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway-a 1.85 km stretch with one station.

“As of date, there is no metro line in Old Gurugram. The main feature of this line is to connect New Gurugram with Old Gurugram. This network will connect with the Indian Railway station. In the next phase, it will provide connectivity to IGI Airport. This will also provide overall economic development in the area,” the statement read.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, announced the decision at a press briefing and said that the project was an equal partnership between the Union and Haryana government. He said around Rs. 2,700 crore of the total project cost will come from loans from international agencies.

According to the statement, the government said the center’s share would be Rs 869.19 crore, the Government of Haryana would contribute Rs 1,432.49 crore, and the local body, HUDA, would provide Rs 300 crore. “Loans would account for Rs.2, 699.57 crore, while public-private partnership schemes for constructing the lifts and escalators would give Rs.135.47 crore,” the statement read.
