PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned a decentralized garbage processing plant at Wagholi, Pune. The plant that is being set up will work for 23 newly merged villages in Wagholi that generate around 300 metric tons of waste every day.
Local residents have suggested three locations for setting up the processing plants. “We want the garbage to be processed at source so that there is no deviation and garbage from other areas should not be brought to these plants,” a local resident suggested. Another resident said, “Transportation of garbage from other places will be detrimental to Wagholi because of it being a densely populated area.”
Now that the setting up of the plant is in progress, it has drawn some opposition from local residents. According to them, the location where the garbage plant has been proposed is a very populated area and transportation from all over Wagholi to these plants will create a problem for the residents.
