SHIMLA: The General Development Committee (GDC) of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha highlighted the need to devise an action plan for conserving the famous Khajjiar lake in Chamba district.
Suresh Kumar, chairman, GDC, presided over a meeting of the committee at Bachat Bhawan. He said that a plan should be formulated to protect the scenic beauty of the Khajjiar lake to make it a major tourist attraction. He asked the concerned officials to carry out repair work on the mule track around the Khajjiar glade and install CCTV cameras.
He further said that the tourism strengthened their economy as well as offered employment opportunities to the locals. He instructed the officials to speed up work on the ongoing sewerage schemes in Chamba, Dalhousie and Chowari towns.
Public Works Department (PWD) officials assured the committee that effective steps would be taken to complete tarring work on the Dalhousie-Khajjiar road before the beginning of the next tourist season.
Harikesh Meena, Deputy Commissioner, Chamba informed the committee about the progress in the plans to start rafting in the Chamera reservoir.
