NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, January 4, under which a number of compressed biogas (CBG) plants and integrated CBG-CNG fuel stations will be built in north Delhi for in-situ processing of wet waste and maximising the use of biodegradable waste.

While the concessional time will be 20 years, the MoU period will be two years, according to Sanjay Goel, Commissioner, NDMC. “Each CBG facility will have a daily conversion capacity of 100 tonnes of segregated Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).” According to the Solid Garbage Management Rules 2016, NDMC will provide separated biodegradable waste (wet waste) to the plants.

He informed that the NDMC will also allocate land for the plants at no cost, with a nominal leasing payment of one dollar per year. Initially, this project is being explored for around three acres of land at Ghogha Dairy. He added that the IGL personnel have evaluated the site and determined it to be suitable for this project.

Goel also stated that NDMC will use bio manure, city compost, and fertilizer created after processing the garbage at a pre-determined cost in its nurseries, gardens and green belts. “After enrichment, the IGL may sell it on the open market.”, he added.
