NDMC implements ‘smart metering solutions’ through mobile app

While addressing the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Smart Meter’ feature on the NDMC app, R K Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, said “The system will allow consumers to know their consumption on a real-time basis and accordingly in their homes, leading to reduced power wastage and providing long term carbon and financial savings. They can find out the quality of power supply, which would help them save their appliance from tripping. We aim to replicate the pilot project in other cities in the next three years.”

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) became the first distribution company in India to implement 100 per cent smart metering solutions. The NDMC on January 9, announced the replacement of 50,000 conventional electricity meters with smart meters in households under its jurisdiction. The project has been implemented by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

Naresh Kumar, NDMC Chairman said that mobile application will help the consumers to switch on & off their electricity meters if they are out of station. There will be no need for meter readers to visit each household as the GPRS technology will help the Council to control the system and reading the bill amount from headquarters.

The project will help the civic agency to regulate electricity consumption by identifying defaulters using more than the sanctioned load.
