NEW DELHI: In a survey conducted by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to determine the structural integrity of buildings in its jurisdiction, the corporation has found out 49 buildings deficient. NDMC has claimed that it had investigated over 7 lakh buildings. Tilak Raj Kataria, NDMC councilor, said that the buildings at fault include 18 buildings in Narela and 26 in City-Sadar Paharganj zone. Similar surveys conducted by the south and east MCDs found no ‘dangerous’ buildings in their respective areas.

A senior NDMC official said that some buildings have been demolished and others are in the process of being razed. Additionally, 88 buildings, including 63 in Rohini and 18 in Narela, were served notices for immediate repair or face action.

Kataria highlighted that the survey was conducted as a precautionary measure to avoid damages dealt by the monsoon season.

The councillors also demanded formation of a ‘dangerous building cell’ in each zone to deal with such buildings. Varsha Joshi, Commissioner, NDMC, informed the house that they have already formed such a cell in Sadar Paharganj zone. “Similarly in Karol Bagh, four to five newly-joined officials have been given a similar task,” she said.
