NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, December 25, Kailash Gahlot, Environment Minister, Government of Delhi inaugurated two sports complexes in Mundhela Kalan and Kair areas in Najafgarh. The project costed ₹147 crore for both the complexes.
The complexes are equipped with various facilities. The sports complex at Kair, spread across 18.20 acres of land, has a football field which is the first FIFA-certified football field in a sports complex in the Capital. Also, a new cricket ground with seating stands around it, synthetic tracks for athletics, tennis court, basketball court, swimming pool, jogging track, an indoor area with a few sport facilities and residential blocks as well. The Mundhela Kalan sports facility offers a 400-metre synthetic track with six lanes and a 100-metre synthetic running track having eight lanes. The complex also houses a synthetic football field for which certification from FIFA is awaited and is likely to be issued very soon, said the Delhi government.
Gahlot said, “The Government of Delhi has initiated different schemes for promoting various sports amongst children and youth from the grassroots level. Also, the government has invested generously in developing sports infrastructure good enough to provide international standard sporting facilities.” Gahlot further said that the two facilities will play a crucial role in encouraging and nurturing local sports talent, especially encouraging the youth from rural areas of Delhi-NCR.
