PUDUCHERRY: M Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India, has directed state governments and urban local bodies to initiate installation of solar panels on rooftops and rainwater harvesting systems in large buildings to fuel sustainable development.
During his speech at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, he called upon public sector units to utilize renewable energy for their sustainability. Moreover, implementation of rooftop solar panels in industries is the need of the hour, he added. According to him, these initiatives can be quite cost effective and, at the same time, beneficial to organizations at micro level and the nation as a whole. To accomplish the goal of sustainability through the means of rooftops solar systems, union territories and state governments are required to create awareness about the same. “People must understand that initial cost for setting up these panels might be high, but its benefits will be greater in the longer run,” Naidu said.
