Nagaland & Meghalaya reported 81% and 74% voter turnout respectively

SHILLONG, Meghalaya: The northeastern states of Nagaland and Meghalaya underwent election for which voting was held on February 27. As per the revelation of the Election Commission of India, Nagaland recorded 81.94 per cent voter turnout, while in Meghalaya 74.32 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.

In Nagaland, elections were held for 59 seats out of a total of 60 assembly seats because one Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Kazheto Kimini was declared winner as his rival withdrew from the elections. Around 13 lakh people were eligible to exercise their franchise in the latest assembly elections. Over 2,290 polling stations were built to allow voters to participate in the voting process.

Similarly, in Meghalaya, voting was held for 59 seats out of a total of 60 assembly seats and voting for Sohiong Assembly seat has been deferred due to the death of one of the candidates. 21.6 lakh voters were eligible to vote, of which nearly 75 per cent exercised their voting rights.

Voting was also held in one assembly constituency each in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Jharkhand. Erode East bypolls reported 70.58 per cent turnout. While Sagardighi in West Bengal reported 63 per cent voter turnout till 3 pm, and Ramgarh Assembly constituency bypoll reported 67 per cent.
