KOHIMA, Nagaland: The Government of Nagaland, headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, on Tuesday, June 28, distributed awards to the best performing urban local bodies of the state. With this move, the state government aims to increase the level of awareness regarding cleanliness and waste management among residents of the state.
A total of 17 awards, in six categories, were given to the ULBs. For this purpose, 39 ULBs of Nagaland were assessed on parameters such as the utilisation of plastic waste, garbage, vulnerable point, elimination of single-use plastics and public participation in waste management.
The award ceremony was named, ‘Cleanest Urban Local Bodies and Ward Awards – 2022 Nagaland’. In the ceremony, CM Neiphiu Rio facilitated the winning ULBs. Dr Neilkiesalie Kire, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, were also present on the occasion.
In the prize distribution ceremony, CM Rio talked about how Naga does not want reservation for women in the ULBs. He further added that both Rio and Naga grant reservation for the women population in village councils. Additionally, he also highlighted that Nagas should be exempted from paying taxes as they are a tribal population. However, they do get the share of Central taxes and duties.
Neilkiesalie Kire, on the other hand focused on proper implementation of the waste management processes, to thwart the deterioration of biodiversity rich environment of Nagaland. He also requested the people of the state to take the initiative of my waste, my responsibility.
