NEW DELHI: Hardeep Puri, Minister of Union Housing and Urban Affairs, in his address to the Lok Sabha, stated that the municipal corporations in Delhi had demolished illegal encroachments built over thousands of square meters land from April 2018, till May 2019.
The minister made the observations upon a question raised by Manoj Rajoria, MP, on June 25, in the parliament session. He highlighted that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) had cleared 1,930 sqm while the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had removed encroachments from 23,312 sqm of land during the same duration. In addition, 896 properties had been sealed and 1,935 units demolished and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) had cleared 1,405 km.
The Municipal Corporations have also initiated actions against 4,004 properties for unauthorised construction, sealing action against 571 properties and demolition against 2,987 properties.
