MUMBAI, Maharashtra: Under India’s Presidency, the second G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group (DRRWG) meeting commenced in Mumbai on May 23, 2023, with delegates visiting the headquarters of the Emergency Operations Centre at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). More than 120 members from various countries are attending the three-day meeting and they have appreciated the magnificent and spectacular architecture of the 128 years old BMC headquarters.
The corporation showcased the various measures taken for mitigation, prevention, and preparedness during emergencies and also tech-based solutions including appliances to deal with heavy rainfall and flooding during the monsoon season.
The National Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with various knowledge partners also hosted a day-long side event themed ‘Financing Disaster Risk Reduction.’
Dr Iqbal Singh Chahal, Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC); Ashwini Bhide, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs); Ashish Sharma, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City); P Velrasu, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects); Ramesh Pawar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) and many other senior officials of the corporation attended the event.
