MUMBAI, Maharashtra: The coastal city of Mumbai has been struggling with waterlogging and traffic congestion as the city continues to batter with heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a red alert for several regions in central Maharashtra.
IMD has predicted heavy rains in Mumbai and its suburbs, along with the neighbouring districts, including Thane, Palghar, and Palghar. This recent spell of rain, which began on Saturday, has been causing waterlogging and traffic congestion in parts of Mumbai.
Considering the heavy rainfall warning in Maharashtra, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed several teams across the state. These teams have been placed in Mumbai, Nagpur, Thane, Ghatkopar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Vasai (Palghar), Powai (Kurla), Mahad (Raigad), Khed, Chiplun (Ratnagiri), and Kudal (Sindhudurg).
In view of the brewing situation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a public advisory telling the residents to avoid going to the coastal areas. They have also been instructed not to leave their homes unless it’s absolutely necessary.
