MUMBAI: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey inaugurated five new divisional Cyber Police Stations on the occasion of Republic day. Each of these police stations are located in the five policing regions of the state – North, South, West, East and Central.

CM Thackrey compared the menace of cyber crime to the COVID-19 pandemic and said that just like we are fighting an unseen enemy in the form of the novel coronavirus, cybercrime is also an unseen attack for which the police are prepared. S Chaitanya, Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Police, said that earlier there was just one cyber police station with a strength of 60 at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). He added that it was difficult for the people to travel all the way to BKC to register their complaints.

According to the officials, each cyber police station will be equipped with 30-50 personnel and they will not be given any bandobast or other routine duties. More than 2,200 cases of cybercrime were registered between January and November last. Increased law enforcement in terms of cybercrime will help a lot of victims of data-theft, online fraud, banking fraud and identity theft.
