NEW DELHI: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) provided its recommendations for the first time on November 28, 2018, to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The central government accepted the recommendation and displayed a commitment to the fundamental principles and concepts of Net Neutrality. TRAI, on Tuesday, September 22, suggested establishing a multi-stakeholder body (MSB) to further that the internet providers adhere to the provisions of net neutrality.
TRAI released its detailed recommendations made to the DoT and said, “The role of the multi-stakeholder body will be to provide advice and support to DoT in monitoring and enforcement of net neutrality principles.” TRAI described that the proposed panel should comprise all telecom service providers, internet providers, and other stakeholders such as content providers, researchers, academic and technical community, consumers, and the government, and should act as a non-profit entity.
TRAI’s “Traffic management practices and multi-stakeholder body for net neutrality,” detailed that the MSB would help in recommending suitable technical standards and methodologies on matters and practices concerned with internet traffic management and net neutrality.
