BHOPAL, Madhya Pradesh: In the local body elections held on Tuesday, September 27, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured 417 seats, followed by Congress with 240 seats and independent candidates prevailed over 131 seats. This time, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also opened its account with seven posts of municipal corporators in Singrauli district.
Around 46 urban local bodies (ULBs) with 814 posts of corporators went into elections and over 72 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in these local body elections.
In the results of these elections, BJP’s seat share far exceeds that of its opponents with a massive 51 per cent. The party also won four out of six seats in Chhindwara which was considered the backyard of former Chief Minister of MP Kamal Nath. While in Sausar local body of Chhindwara, BJP prevailed in 14 out of 15 seats.
The 18 districts that saw the elections include Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Umaria, Seoni, Chhindwara, Sagar, Singrauli, Shahdol, Balaghat, Khandwa, Khargone, Betul, Raisen, Ratlam, Alirajpur, Burhanpur and Alirajpur.
