NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has released the detailed guidelines for the ‘Mission Shakti’ scheme. ‘Mission Shakti’ is an umbrella scheme introduced to ensure the safety, security and empowerment of women. The scheme will be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25.
The scheme also aims to increase women’s participation in the labour force with the help of skill development of the women population in the country. As per the guidelines, the scheme comprises of two sub-schemes – ‘Sambal’ and ‘Samarthya’. Sub-Scheme ‘Sambal’ aims to provide a safe and secure milieu for women in the country. The sub-scheme includes initiatives such as One Stop Centre (OSC) and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) with an added component of Nari Adalats – to promote and facilitate alternative dispute resolution and gender justice in society and family. While the sub-scheme ‘Samarthya’ is aimed to empower women with the help of initiatives such as Ujjwala, Swadhar Greh, National Creche Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMY) under the umbrella of ICDS. An additional component of Gap Funding has also been introduced for economic empowerment.
