NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, has announced the celebration of the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav, a fortnight of thematic events from September 17 to October 2, to celebrate eight years of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban. In line with this, the ministry is organising the Swachh Shehar Samvad and Technology Exhibition during September 29-30 under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, will inaugurate the Swachh Shehar Samvad and Technology Exhibition. The ministry expects the participation of over 800 delegates in this event, including senior officials from the states and cities, sector partners, non-governmental organisations (NGO), representatives from the industry, academia etc.

The programme is part of the capacity building initiatives of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0. With this, the ministry aims to create understanding among the participants regarding the recent developments in the waste management sector. The exhibition includes high quality technical and administrative discussions centred on topics such as the management of municipal solid waste and liquid waste, to allow states and cities to formulate their own strategies, best practices and challenges encountered in their journey to attain Garbage Free status. The Samvad will host around 16 states who will share their experiential learning and best practices.

The Tech Exhibition will showcase the best models that are being used in the waste management sector across the country. In this exhibition, around 35 technology providers will showcase their cutting-edge technology in the waste management sector. Apart from this, working models on the waste management/sanitation sector, water use management, packaging options and 3Rs (Reduce-Recycle-Reuse), processing of municipal solid waste etc., will be showcased.

This Samvad is a precursor to the grand finale of October 1, when the Azadi@75 Swachh Survekshan Awards will be announced. The President of India Droupadi Murmu will be present in the event as chief guest and will felicitate the top performing states and cities under various categories of the Swachh Survekshan 2022 Awards.
