NEW DELHI: Increased rainfall creates amicable circumstances for waterborne and vectorborne diseases. This becomes a challenge for the local authorities. Considering this fact, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has introduced the Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and be implemented between July 1 and August 31, 2024.
Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao aims to ensure that all urban local bodies in India are ready and well-equipped to deal with the challenges of intense rainfall and health hazards that come along.
Key elements of the initiative consist of various campaigns, including special cleanliness drives, regular cleaning of the community as well as public toilets, collection and transportation of waste, sanitation and hygiene facility for children, adequate testing of water quality, supply of drinking water, and maintenance of water works.
Pre-monsoon and during-monsoon preparedness activities will also consist of other events, such as diarrhea management, a drive to ensure visible higher order of cleanliness, training local communities, organisations, and govt officials on water management, sanitation, hygiene, and awareness.
