NEW DELHI: Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, in his address to the nation last evening, said that this is not the time for the citizens to be negligent or careless concerning the virus. The Prime Minister has addressed the nation seven times since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. He said that even a minor laxity on the part of the people can trigger a second wave of infections and dampen the festive spirit.
He mentioned how people are growing careless, have stopped taking precautions like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing from the time the lockdown has been lifted. He said, “We must keep in mind that the lockdown may have ended but the virus is still there.” Adding that media personnel and people on social media should campaign and spread public awareness for following COVID-19 guidelines, Modi asked people to not put themselves, children and elders at risk by not following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
The Prime Mister also assured that the government is making all the efforts to ensure that COVID-19 vaccine reaches every Indian, whenever it is approved. He added that many countries that witnessed a decrease in COVID-19 infections after the peak are experiencing an alarming rise in cases again. Thus, he requested citizens to not lower their guard until there is a vaccine available.
