VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to levy fines of Rs 5,000 aiming to prevent the dumping of garbage on roadsides. The civic body has also asked people to click and send pictures of people dumping garbage on roads.
In a notice issued to its employees, Agnelo Fernandes, MMC Chief Officer asked municipal inspectors and supervisors to check and stay for the black spots marked by the municipality in their jurisdiction. These black spots are areas identified by the municipality officials where garbage is dumped regularly. The MMC has implemented strict rules against open dumping of waste, especially at the black spots identified.
In the second notice, Fernandes asked supervisors to identify all water bodies in their jurisdiction within two days and ensure that garbage is not dumped into them.
