Mizoram records 80% COVID -19 recovery rate

AIZWAL: The Mizoram Government has reported that more than 80 per cent of the total COVID-19 infected patients in the state have recovered from the deadly virus as of July 1, 2020. Of the total 151 patients so far, there are 29 active cases and 122 have been cured and discharged, taking the recovery rate of the state to 80.7 per cent. The state has not registered any death due to infection.

According to a health department official, at least 61 people, which included 45 from Lunglei district and 8 each from Aizawl and Mamit districts, were discharged from hospitals and dedicated COVID-19 health centres (DCHC) or Covid-19 care centres (CCC) on Tuesday.

Mizoram had reported its first COVID-19 case on March 24 when a patient with a travel history to Amsterdam returned back to the state. He was discharged from Zoram Medical College (ZMC) near Aizawl on May 9. After the recovery of first patient, the number of cases spiked in the state from and reached a total tally of 151 within a month.

According to health department, a total of 13,746 samples have been tested till Tuesday, of which 13,358 were tested at ZMC, 330 at Lunglei civil hospital and 58 samples were tested in Assam. Among the 11 districts, Lunglei in the southern part of the state recorded the highest COVID-19 case with 47, followed by Aizawl district with 38 and Mamit with 18. Kolasib, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial and Saitual are among the coronavirus free districts in the state as of now.
