NEW DELHI: The proposal to close the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) has been approved ‘in principal’ by the Ministry of Railway, Government of India. The IRSDC since its established has been engaged in big ticket projects of redevelopment of existing railway stations of major cities. Ministry of Railways issued direction to IRSDC on October 18 to initiate closure formalities and to hand over all of its ongoing projects to respective zonal railways. IRSDC has been asked to handover all the redevelopment plans and documents to the zones to ensure continuation of the projects.
Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Advisor to Government of India was the one to put the proposal of massive restructuring of Indian Railways in this way. In his proposal, Sanjeev had mentioned that the role and works of Rail Land Development Authority and IRSDC have been overlapping. After assessing both the organisations, the Ministry found RLDA as better performing among the two.
