DAKSHIN KANNADA, Karnataka: Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, district-in-charge for Dakshin Kannada, directed the local body officials to complete all projects started under the Nagarothana scheme at the earliest.
The directive of the Minister came during a review meeting of urban local bodies in the district, which he was chairing. Apart from the timely completion of the project, directives also urged the local body officials to ensure that the tender process for sanctioned projects is also completed timely.
Speaking over the issue, MP Mullai Muhilan, Deputy Commissioner, Dakshin Kannada, informed that nearly 302 projects, worth ₹130 crore, have been sanctioned for the district as part of Chief Minister’s Small and Medium Cities Development Scheme. Out of the 302 sanctioned projects, tenders have been completed for 213 projects on which work has already begun, and tenders for 41 projects are under progress or not started.
Deputy Commissioner also conveyed the challenges faced by the urban local bodies, including a shortage of junior engineers, health inspectors and revenue inspectors.
After receiving inquiries from the public, Minister Rao instructed the deputy commissioner to guarantee that farmers affected by the proposed high-tension power line from Udupi Power Company Ltd to Kerala receive the highest possible compensation for their land. He said that the farmers need to be compensated as they cannot cultivate fields that will be under the power line.
