Metro Neo line cleared by Maharashtra govt in Pimpri

MUMBAI: The Government of Maharashtra on Wednesday, February 17, approved the proposal to extend the Pune Metro from Pimpri to Nigdi. The new Metro Neo corridor, which is 4.41 km-long, is built as an additional route after the Pune-Swargat Metro corridor was altered. This project will have three stations between Pimpri and Nigdi including Nigdi, Akurdi and Chinchwad.

Metro Neo is the rubber tyre based bus system which will extract power from the overhead electric conductor. The project is being implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation at a cost of Rs 946.73 crore. The Government of India will fund 10 per cent of the cost whereas the state government will fund the project with Rs 170.3 crore including Rs 90.63 crore as a secondary loan. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will also provide funds and the remaining 60 per cent will be raised through loans, government official said.
