SHILLONG, Meghalaya: The Government of Meghalaya’s Initiative Meghalaya Enterprises Architecture (MeghEA), for faster and timely implementation of development projects and schemes, gets recognition from United Nations.

Planning department of the state government is the nodal agency for the implementation of MeghEA project. The project has been recognised by United Nation’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2022, in ‘the role of government in the promotion of information and communication technologies (ICTs)’ category.

The project has three major components (i) government to citizen or business services, (ii) government to employee services and (iii) government to government services. Under the government to government subset of MeghEA, an e-proposal system has been established, which allows faster approvals and processing of schemes. The e-proposal system uses modern day technologies and it has brought together multiple departments, directorates and other government agencies on a single platform.

Till now, in just a period of two months nearly 1600 proposals have been received through the e-proposal system and up to Rs 790 crores have been sanctioned. The processes which used to take months are now completed in just a few days.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma expressed his gratitude for such recognition on twitter. He posted, “Was honoured to receive on behalf of Meghalaya, the @WSISprocess Award by the @UN for the Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA)- India’s 1st Enterprise Architecture Initiative at Geneva, Switzerland yesterday.”

WSIS forum was jointly organised by International Telecommunication Union (ITU), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This year the conference was held at the headquarters of ITU in Geneva, Switzerland from March 15 to June 3, and the conference is observing the theme “ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience: WSIS Cooperation for Accelerating Progress on the SDGs.”
