LUDHIANA: Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana (MCL) carried out a demolition drive for illegal colonies but did not mention anything about few settlements which applied for regularisation in the past five years. Officials of the municipal corporation claimed that developers have not submitted their documents and some had only deposited a single installment.
To bring these developers to submit their documents, civic bodies had to recommend FIRs against them, an official said. “It is because of this reason that the number of plot holders applying for regularisation is higher,” the official added. As residents continue to suffer and civic bodies wait for developers to complete the formalities, developers are busy selling their plots.
The first regularisation policy was released in 2013. Since then, civic officials have received only 168 applications from developers. Of these, only 31 were regularised and the rest are in progress. Unless the developers get the colonies regularised, the civic body will not provide any basic amenities and residents will continue to be stuck in a limbo who have invested their hard-earned money.
