GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials, in a meeting for the 2020 Swachh Survekshan Survey, announced that they won’t be collecting unsegregated waste from July 1 onwards. The decision was made public by a press release issued by the ULB on June 19. People are to segregate waste into dry and wet to avail the collection service of the corporation.

“During the meeting, Hariom Attri and Inderjit Kulharia, joint commissioners, instructed officials of the sanitation wing to apprise residents about the need to segregate dry and wet waste, and further directed them to inform residents that MCG will stop lifting mixed waste from July 1 onwards. If a resident does not segregate their waste, necessary penalty would be levied on them as mandated under Solid Waste Management Rules 2016,” said SS Rohilla, MCG public relation officer.

Authorities plan to improve Gurugram’s ranking in the next Swachh Survekshan with the move. They also plan to emphasis on e-waste that is being generated in the city. The civic body has also warned of heavy fines that would be imposed on the violators if found littering in public spaces. Sanitation officers have been directed to identify the dirtiest parts of the city, which would be targeted for cleanliness drives in the near future.

  1. Well, alongside there is need for enforcing the law and following up with a strict fine upon disobeying it. Laws are written, fines are also assigned but who will enforce it?

Municipal Co-operation needs to commercialize part of its work to a private Indian company. This can give them the funding flexibility for advancement in execution of daily activities and additional work force. No matter the laws or fines or court mandate orders for a use of public property- none of this can have effect unless there is a enforcement and task force on the zero ground. Heavily populated localities be it New York City/Mumbai: there is need for strict and zero ground law and order personnel to enforce the rules. Without which there will be only chaos. Recruit people, have them enforce the law by giving out electronic tickets of fine to anyone who disobeys it. Enforcement needs to be very strict.

For trash pick up/Cleanliness: Do not say, we wont pick up the scattered trash, instead install ground fitted trash cans on every street (as installed in Pune, some parts of Mumbai, etc.), Develop a system wherein you list every property owner (who is bound to have some trash accumulated in a day) take money from every shop/ societies, malls, business owners, etc. tie them to a system and collect “MONEY” from them. Why you want to work for free? When ask people to give money-they would watch out for it- gather it and make sure to utilize your service.

For street/pedestrian path encroachment: Assign a person to every street and fine them. Rotate the personnel from one assigned location to another in order to prevent the socialism of the official with the locals. How Demonetization was brought into effect at once, do the same for encroachment. Or if you fear loosing poor vote bank- or protest, use a government property-design it like an open mall- use best architectures and engineers of India to come up with a design.
