MCG imposes strict measures to curb water wastage

GURUGRAM, Haryana: Gurugram is grappling with a water crisis, to which residents have expressed concern as water supply has been affected in several localities. Narhari Singh, Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), has issued a directive to crack down on water wastage. Residents caught using potable water to wash vehicles or courtyards between 5 am and 9 am will face a fine of Rs 5,000. Repeated offenders risk disconnection of their water supply and an additional fine of Rs 5,000. Reconnection will cost Rs 1,000, and restoration of the water supply will require a fee of Rs 5,000. The MCG stated that the rampant violations include installing motors and pumps directly on the supply line, which reduces water pressure in the area, the motors and pumps will be confiscated apart from the imposition of fines. The corporation further stated that the unauthorized washing centers would be sealed, and their water connection would be snapped too. If an overhead tank or tap is found leaking, the water supply will be disconnected. Additionally, potable water is also not permitted for construction purposes. The violation will invite a penalty of Rs 10,000. The MCG's actions came after directives from urban local bodies to curb water wastage during peak supply hours.
