NEW DELHI: As the country braces for the Lok Sabha elections, the national capital is gearing up for the civic elections as the tenure of its officials, including Mayor Shelly Oberoi, concluded on March 31.

She will not be able to contest the election this year, as the post is reserved for the councillor coming from the Schedule Caste community in the third term. Elections will also be held for the post of deputy mayor as Section 35 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act mandates that in its first meeting, the corporation will elect one of its members as Mayor and one as Deputy Mayor.
