THANE, Maharashtra: The Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in Maharashtra has established a ‘Central School Control Room’ to improve the safety of the students. The control room will be keeping a close watch on 10,000 students in 36 municipal schools via 200 CCTVs installed in these schools.
The civic body swung into action after an unfortunate incident last month. In a school in Badlapur district, two-four year-old schoolgirls were sexually assaulted by a male attendant inside the washroom.
Following this, a control room has been set up in the Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium in Mira Bhayander. The facility is designed to monitor the CCTV footage across the schools to improve student safety.
Sanjay Katkar, Municipal Commissioner, Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation, informed that the control room can monitor nearly 1000 CCTV cameras and is equipped with advanced technology along with a UPS generator backup. The control room will be keeping a strict vigil on 10,000 students from 36 municipal schools with the help of 200 cameras installed in these schools. There are around 10,000 students in these municipal schools. With this, the municipal corporation is trying to proactively alleviate the security concerns, thus providing a safe and secure learning environment for students.
Although the control room currently monitors only the municipal schools, the local authority is planning to increase its coverage to include the private institutions under its ambit.
