IMPHAL, Manipur: Recently, the state cabinet of Manipur has approved the Manipur Plastic Policy 2022, to combat plastic pollution and Manipur Tourism Policy to harness the tourism potential of the state.
To combat the menace of Single-use plastic, the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has decided to curtail the use, manufacture and sale of Single-use plastic items with “low utility and high littering potential” and plastic bags of less than 120 microns by the end of 2022.
The Government of Manipur has approved the Manipur Plastic Policy 2022, for the implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, which were amended in 2021.
Along with it, the Manipur cabinet has also approved the Manipur Tourism Policy to harness and evolve the tourism potential of the state. Additionally, it will create employment and livelihood opportunities and, boost investment and income generation in the state.
The state cabinet also evaluated the progress of the ‘100 days programme’. The state government has decided to complete the 100 action points during the first 100 days of the government. The action plan included broadening the width of 79 stretches of roads. Out of which 57 roads lie in the Greater Imphal area, 10 roads across the other district headquarters and 12 in the hill district headquarters. The Cabinet has also launched the ‘District Hill Leaders Day’, ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ to provide government services to the citizens at their doorstep and the first instalment of Rs 30,000 seed money for the applicants of specified categories of startups to whom the government has decided to provide 100 per cent subsidy.
