MANDI: In a bid to spread the message of ‘Save girl child’ in the city, Mandi district administration will be launching a program called the ‘Balika Gaurav Udhyan Yojana’. Under this program, the authorities will be asking the parents of a girl child to plant fruit saplings in orchids which would be maintained by the local panchayat bodies.
Ashutosh Garg, additional deputy commissioner, Mandi, chaired a meeting with district officials about this program on Tuesday, July 16, and asked them to initiate the launch of the scheme at the earliest.
Garg said, the panchayat bodies had been asked to identify places in its jurisdiction to set up orchards in the name of the girl child. “The state government is committed to saving the girl child and empower women. All arrangements have been made for the launch of the scheme,” he added.
