MUMBAI: The Government of Maharashtra, on Wednesday, August 25, launched a special scheme for women of poor families who lost their husbands due to COVID-19 infection. The scheme named ‘Mission Vatsalya’ has been prepared for widows who come from poor backgrounds and deprived sections of the society.
Yashomati Thakur, Minister of Women and Child Development, Government of Maharashtra, said that the mission aims to provide a set of 18 facilities to widows under a single roof as their hardships are increased due to the death of their family’s sole breadwinner. This includes various schemes such as the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, and Gharkul Yojana, among others. She added that 15,095 women have lost their husbands due to COVID-9 infection in the last 18 months. She added that
She also added that the staff of WCD department, including child development project officers, local unit officers and Anganwadi workers, are visiting the houses of aggrieved women and providing them with these services. The department has reached out to 10,500 women in the state so far, she added.
