Maharashtra can become model-state for the world: CSIR chief

PUNE: Shekhar Mande, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), urged the young scientists on Sunday, August 8, to use science as an effective medium to find solutions for society to ensure its well-being. Mande delivered an address on ‘Contribution of Maharashtra in the field of science’, which was an online discussion as a part of ‘Maharashtra Diamond Jubilee Lecture’ series hosted by Maharashtra Information Centre.

Mande said that there is no doubt that Maharashtra will be the leader and has the potential of becoming a model state for the world. During his address, Mande shared some on-going researches at various scientific institutions, which include the Indian institute of Technology-Bombay, National Institute of Virology, National Centre for Cell Science, National Institute of Radio Astrophysics, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and many others.

Mande also added that the state-run universities have also showed some top-class works and these have contributed towards scientific progress. Maharashtra has promoted education, particularly medical education in hand with science and research. Cities such as Kolhapur, Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai and Aurangabad are home to educational institutions and universities which have made great contributions, he added.
