MUMBAI, Maharashtra: The Department of Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra, has issued a draft notification changing the status of the Jalna local body from a municipal council to that of a municipal corporation.

Notification is now in the public domain on Wednesday, and people could raise their objections, if there are any, by June 8, after which the final notification will be issued.

Once the upgradation of the Jalna municipal council is complete, it will become the 29th municipal corporation in the state and fifth that falls in the Marathwada region.

Arjun Khotkar, former minister of Shiv Sena said that the move will pave the way for the development of Jalna. He said, “We have been taking a strong follow-up with the state government, following which chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis took a considerate view of our long-pending demand.”
