LUDHIANA: A 10-member committee of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) councilors and officials was formed and dispatched to Prayagraj on Thursday, August 5, to study ‘waste to energy’ plants operating in the city under private firms.
The official visit has been sponsored by the private firms which are operating these plants in Prayagraj. These plants deal in the production of biofuel after processing the waste. The committee, after reviewing the work, will submit a report on the operational status of these plants with Balkar Sandhu, Mayor, LMC.
Sandhu stated that LMC is studying different models to deal with solid waste and soon they are planning to release tenders to hire contractors for the work.
Earlier, the MC committee made a visit to Vellore, Tamil Nadu in 2019 and Indore in 2020 to study the working of waste management plants located there. However, the review report stated that no concrete measures have been taken to improve the working of these plants.
