LUDHIANA: Balkar Singh Sandhu, Mayor, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, has assured street vendors whose carts were impounded during anti-encroachment drives that they would be permitted to set up their carts at sites identifies by the MC as vending zones. Along with this, the vendors won’t be charged anything for stationing their carts at the identified new spots. With this move, the authority hopes to eliminate traffic congestion caused by faulty set ups of fruit and vegetable carts on the roads in the city.
The Corporation has identified a total of 140 vending sites in the city. An official has highlighted that around 40 sites have been notified about the new guidelines whereas about 100 vending sites are yet to be notified, due to which the process of setting up the vending sites is getting delayed.
