GANDHINAGAR, Gujarat: In the city beauty competition held in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad’s Lokmanya Tilak Baug or Victoria Garden has bagged the award in the Green Space Category. Apart from that, Swami Vivekananda Park in Kodinar and Ahmedabad’s Flower Park have bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.
The City Beauty Awards were announced in five categories: Heritage, Green Space, Commercial, Waterfront, and Ward. Within each category, three awards were announced.
Lokmanya Tilak Baug is managed by the CSR arm of Torrent Group, UNM Foundation, under the Pratiti initiative. The foundation noted, “Every day about 2,500 to 3,000 visitors, including morning walkers, visit the garden which works out to about 10-11 lakh in footfall per annum.”
In the ceremony, awards were given by the Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner M Thennarasan and presided over by Ashwini Kumar. As part of the selection process, entries were invited from cities and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the state government-appointed Third-Party Agency (TPA) for on-ground verification.
City Beauty Competition was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, to allow the cities to showcase their initiatives towards beautifying their cities and adding value to urban life.
