Lodhi Garden gets a ‘hi-tech’ nursery

New Delhi:  A ‘high-tech’ nursery – which enables the maintenance of a controlled atmosphere, with high humidity and a low temperature of 20-26 degree Celsius was inaugurated by L-G Anil Baijal at Lodhi Garden in the heart of the city on Tuesday. Delhi has been reeling under severe dust pollution for the past few days. The deteriorating air quality in the national capital is a matter of serious concern and local bodies should take initiatives on a “priority basis” to combat pollution with sustained efforts to enhance green belt here, Lt Governor Anil Baijal said in the inauguration program. He described Lodhi Gardens as horticultural delight and the ‘best urban oasis in Asia. It is home to historic tombs and some of the most exotic plants and bird species.

He said that NDMC has taken several innovative projects to improve the city’s landscape such as vertical gardens on spaces like metro flyover pillars, building walls.

NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar said that the purpose to open new hi-tech nurseries is to reduce dependency on other cities to get high-quality seedling at appropriate time for optimum results. The civic body has developed three such hi-tech nurseries in its area with the objective to regulate availability of high-quality first-generation hybrid seedlings, and hi-end plants, by overcoming natural weather conditions he added.

The Lt Governor appealed to public to adopt Yoga from this 21st June ‘International Yoga Day’.
