NEW YORK: Bill de Blasio, Mayor, New York City, has ordered the shutting down of non-essential businesses and schools in nine places around the city. These places were once recognised as the clusters of COVID-19 infection in the country.  The lockdown will begin from Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

De Blasio said that this will take effect in nine neighborhoods where sudden spike of COVID-19 infections have been recorded. He attributed the surge in cases to avoidance of social distancing norms and wearing masks. According to an analysis by Reuters, New York is the only state which has not witnessed a rise in COVID-19 infections.
