GUWAHATI, Assam: The Tata Trust Foundation will provide one of the largest networks of cancer care facilities, 17 in total, to Assam that can also cater for the needs of entire north-east region.
In 2018, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Assam and Tata Trust Foundation, during Advantage Assam, global investment summit held in the same year, to construct a network of hospitals under distributed cancer care model in Assam. The plan is to build 17 such medical facilities in total that can also cater to the needs of up to 50,000 people in the north-eastern states.
The Spokesperson of Tata Trust said, “We want to improve the early to late detection ratio from existing 30:70 to 70:30, and Level 4 (L4) of the model covers the outreach initiatives like awareness, screening, patient navigation and follow-up, including palliative care, which over a period of time, will help in bringing down the cancer care load.”
Supposedly, PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate seven hospitals at Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Jorhat, Tezpur, Kokrajhar and Darrang. Also, the foundation stone for 7 other hospitals will be laid at Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nalbari, Nagaon and Tinsukia.
