NEW DELHI: Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, on Wednesday, October 28, signed a regulation proposed by the central government for a body of commissioners to control air quality in the National Capital Region.
According to the ‘Commission for Air Quality Management In National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Ordinance 2020’, the panel will be directed by a government official of the rank of Secretary or Chief Secretary and will also include the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, and other officials as ex-officio members.
The Commission will have sole jurisdiction over the NCR, which includes areas in Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, in all matters related to air pollution. The body will be working along with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), other than the respective state governments.
