HYDERABAD: The new housing complex being developed at Kollur by Grater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would be a model colony in terms of being eco-friendly, said M Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner on April 30.

The GHMC commissioner toured the colony of 15,660 housing units which are under construction on 124 acres of land at a cost of ₹1,355 crore.

A special committee would be constituted with members of the GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewage Board (HMWSSB), Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI), and Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (TSREDCO), among others, to make suggestions and monitor development of the colony, said Dana Kishore.

The eco-friendly concept includes components such as zero garbage generation, construction of sewage treatment plants, separation of storm water drainage from the internal sewerage system, compost units, landscaping and livelihood development. The development plan includes development of infrastructure in the colony, including roads, drinking water, power, STPs, and fire services and the project is worth Rs 616 crore.
