KOLKATA: The Government of West Bengal initiated the process of administrative changes in over 100 municipalities on Thursday, August 19. Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, West Bengal, said that several ministers including Arup Roy, Rathin Ghosh, and Sujit Basu were removed.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC)’s board of administrators will not be changed. Bhattacharya added that Firhad Hakim, Minister of Housing and Transport, would remain the chairman of KMC. According to the official statement, changes will be brought in the administrative board of Kharadah, Kamarhati, Barangar, Naihati, Bhatpara, Barrackpore, Titagarh, Dumdum and Panihati. North Dumdum Municipality’s new chairman will be Bidhan Biswas.
Former mayor Ram Chakraborty will be the new chairman of the administrative board of Chandannagar Municipal Corporation. The Chairman of Uttarpara, Konnagar, Rishra, Bhadreshwar, Baidyabati, Serampore, Tarkeshwar and Arambagh municipalities will also be changed.
