THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has decided to use Reverse Transcription Loop- Mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) testing method to confirm the cases of COVID-19 in the state. The rate of the testing has been determined at Rs 1,150, which includes the swabbing charges. RT-LAMP testing method can produce results in a significantly lesser time, thereby increasing the throughput of labs.
The COVID-19 daily positivity rate of the state has continued to stay around nine per cent for the third consecutive day. Kerala recorded the Total Positivity Rate (TPR) of 9.81 per cent on Wednesday, December 30. A total of 6,268 people have tested positive and a total of 63,887 samples were tested for COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours. Kerala has recorded a total of 5,707 recoveries. A total of 28 deaths were recorded to be due to COVID-19. Of all the new cases, 5,652 people have contracted the infection through local spread and source of infection for more than 400 people were unknown.
