THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is to start green audit in government offices in Thiruvananthapuram district from Monday, January 11. The audit will lead to the provision of green certification. Arya Rajendran, Mayor, Thiruvananthapuram, will begin and launch the green auditing at the panchayat directorate office. At the local body institutions, the green audit will be inaugurated by D Suresh Kumar, District Panchayat President, at Athiyannoor block panchayat on Tuesday, January 12.
Officials from varied departments such as health, local self-government, pollution, control board and rural development will begin the green auditing process. The audit is being jointly initiated by Harith Keralam Mission and Suchitwa Mission. The grading will be done on the basis of marks obtained by various departments and will receive the green certification accordingly.
Various features considered in the green audit of the government offices will include less garbage consumption, avoid banned plastics, segregation of waste, toilet facilities with adequate infrastructure, setting up of organic vegetable farming, avoiding the e-waste and appointment of nodal officers for maintaining green protocol.
