THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Kerala: Kerala has won three awards in the Union government’s awards for excellence in implementing the Pradhan Mantri awas Yojana (Urban)-LIFE project for 2021 along with Jharkhand and Chattisgarh. It has also bagged a position for the best convergence model of PMAY (Urban) with livelihood. The Mattannur municipality won third place for implementing the project among the municipalities.
M.B Rajesh, the Minister of Local Self Government, Kerala, mentioned that the awards recognised excellent work done by the state government and it has increased the share of funds compared to other states.
For construction of houses for each beneficiary, the Government of India is contributing Rs 1.5 lakh to the project, while Government of Kerala and the local bodies were providing Rs 2.5 lakh, making it the highest funded housing project in the country.
