THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cyclone Beruvi is ready to make landfall in the region between Kanyakumari and Pamban in south Tamil Nadu on Friday, December 4. The deep depression will convert into a cyclone and will cross the Sri Lanka coast and move towards Kanyakumari.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over south-west and around south-east Bay of Bengal lay centred over south-west Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and is expected to cross Sri Lanka coast with a wind speed of 75-85 kilometres per hour (kmph).
South Kerala is expected to be hit by the cyclone in the form of heavy rainfall, strong wind and rough sea conditions. Southern Kerala will receive heavy rainfall in the end of the week due to the influence of weather system. Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts as heavy rains are predicted in these areas. The coastal areas of the state will witness strong winds with the speed of 75-85 kmph gusting to 95 kmph.
