Kerala gets its first dedicated COVID-19 facility

KASARAGOD: Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, on September 9, inaugurated the first dedicated COVID-19 hospital of Kerala. Vijayan said that it is the perfect example of how a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) can be put to good use.

The facility was built by the Tata Group in a span of just 5 months with the use of prefabricated containers. It contains 551 beds and has 36 ventilators for COVID patients in serious conditions. The hospital has an area of 80,000 square feet has been constructed on almost five acres of land in Thekkil village, Kasaragod.

The hospital was inaugurated through video conferencing where Vijayan thanked Tata Group for taking interest in the developing Kerala’s health infrastructure. The authority to finalise the facilities and appointments to the hospital lies with the state government. At the same time, the largest COVID First-Line Treatment Centre (CFLTC) in the state with a 1,400 bed facility was also inaugurated on Monday, September 7, 2020, at Nattika, Thrissur.
